Streamlining… and a Desk For Sale

While Face-Timing with my parents earlier tonight my mom mentioned that I would paint anything that I thought I could sell… and she’s right.

So sorry mom (and dad) but I’m selling that desk you gave me. The one I painted teal a year or so ago… yep.

Afterall, that is what I do.

Oh, and you’ll remember that after taking this picture I did fix that wonky drawer pull on the left.

Why the change when this desk is so fun and perfect? In the spirit of getting our guest room in order and de-cluttering our home overall I’ve decided to ditch the bulky seven-drawer desk for a stream-lined parsons style desk straight out of the pages of the EveryGirl. I realized that the drawers have only been holding junk and I don’t use any of the things in them. So there you go. Plus, an assembly-required parsons desk will be much easier to move to Wisconsin with next year.

However if you have a need for a fun, brightly colored desk with LOTSA storage I would encourage you to consider this one. It measures 54″ x 22″ and is 31″ high. I’ll also throw in the custom cut glass top.

We’re asking $200 which should put a significant dent in the cost of a West Elm desk, or completely cover the price of this imposter and a chair. I have to decide how important shine is to me – I could always put a coat of poly on the cheapie right?

  1. I have the West Elm parsons desk in the white lacquer finish, and I need to warn you, it’s not a very durable piece of furniture. I wish WE’s website had customer reviews. The desk itself is well made and sturdy, but the finish is very fragile. I keep my laptop on a cloth placemat, and put felt protectors under all of my stationary storage items and lamp because otherwise the finish gets marked up. If I had known it would get scuffed up so easily, I would have chosen a different desk. If you have a WE by you, look at the floor sample – odds are the white is beat up, and that’s exactly what you can expect at home. Save your pennies, buy the knockoff and lacquer it yourself – it will probably result in a higher quality finish! Good luck!
